[Garrus has been back from the dream docks for a couple of days now. There was so much to digest that he had even taken off a couple of extra days. Part of it has been spent trying to decide what to tell Neo. They've only been out a few times, but he still feels he owes it to her to explain why he can't be with her rather than just dropping off the face of the planet. It's certainly not anything he's looking forward to, though; he liked Neo.

He just loved Shepard.

So it should be no surprise when he pops up on the feel looking a little down.]

Hey, do you have a minute? I, um, kind of need to talk to you about something and I don't want to rush it.

[ She deserves any answers that she wants, so far as he's concerned. He knows it's not his fault that he and Shepard developed feeling for each other back in his universe, but he still kind of feels like he cheated on her. ]

[ Neo hadn't been expecting Garrus to contact her, even though he should. She tilts her head at his tone, but...let's be real, it's hard to tell his emotions due to how his facial structure is.

She gives him a nod, putting down her hair brush. Dressed in her usual outfit, Neo looks ready to leave somewhere, but she has time before work starts. ]

[Garrus takes a deep breath before beginning. This is a first for him, so he really has no idea what he's doing. He's just hoping it isn't a train wreck.]

I went to the dream docks last week to... update, I guess? [He doesn't fully understand it - shit's weird.] A lot of stuff has apparently happened, most of which you won't care about, but I'm kind of involved with someone back home.

[It's only kind of because she's presumed dead, but that's not the first time it's happened and Garrus refuses to believe it until he gets the chance to go look for her himself. Presumed isn't a confirmation.]

I'm really sorry. If I had any idea I wouldn't have started up anything between us.

[It's not like they're really together-together, but he still feels awful for leading her on when they apparently didn't have a future together.]

[ Wow. She can't believe he's dumping her first. That was her plan! Neo crosses her arms and gives him her best disappointed and angry face: ):<

She uses just one hand to sign to him. Her sign-to-voice feature is on.

"Fine."

A girl saying just "fine" is never a good sign. ]

[The Garrus from before would have taken that fine as, well, a fine and been totally relieved. But canon-updated Garrus?]


...You don’t seem fine.


[Well, he’s been around the block a few times, but he’s still far from a pro.


Some would say his dorkiness when it comes to romance is part of his charm. People he’s breaking things off with? They probably won’t.]


That’s because you’re not, right? [He looks down and rubs the back of his neck, not meeting her eyes.] Look, I’m really sorry. I didn’t want to hurt you, which is why I’m telling you now. You’re a nice girl and I think you’re pretty cool, and I do like you, it’s just… It’s Shepard.


[The name might mean nothing to her, but to him? It’s everything. To think the kickass woman who so quickly became his best friend would become his girlfriend. He hadn’t seen it coming, but just thinking about it sends a warm feeling in him.]


I don’t really know how these things work. Is… is there anything I can do to make this easier?

Neo just sighs, because she's irritated, and needs something to exert her anger on.

"How long have you been here?"

She can't even answer his question, because there's nothing he can do to make this easier, which just frustrates her more. ]

Ten months. But I wasn't dating Shepard back then. [Since she had kind of been blown up and he was sure she was dead, but details.] That I only found out a couple of days ago.

So she just hangs up on him!! That actually made her feel a bit better. ]
